About village: Vashere is a Village in Khed Taluka in Pune District of Maharashtra State, India. It belongs to Desh or Paschim Maharashtra region. It belongs to Pune Division. It is located 65 KM towards North from District headquarters Pune and 135 KM from State capital Mumbai. Inhabitants of the village are surrounded by hills. These hamlets have suffered from water scarcity since the month of December till the month of May. In the month of April-May, the intensity of the scarcity increased further. Due to the scattered habitations, villagers needed to walk for around 4 kilometers for drinking water. Throughout the year these inhabitants were dependent on local wells; however, due to the water from the wells depleting daily there is severe scarcity of water in summer when the wells dried up. Solution: In the monsoon season ground water level is high so level of water in the well is also high. During summer season level of water is decrease gradually then it’s hard to collect the water from well in peak days of summer even using the solar pump. The remedy for this is using solar pump fitted on well lift the water from well and collect it in metal storage tank in monsoon period and use this water in summer season for drinking purpose. The schematic representation of project is as bellow: Habitation : Kalechadara, Vashere village, Block : Khed Taluka, Pune District Source of Drinking water : Open well Length of rising mains, mtr : 300 Intake arrangement : Solar pump Population of habitation, (census 2011) : 90 Annual Rainfall, mm : 680 Water demand, ltr : 190000 Daily distribution tanks, ltr : 5000 The roof is domed shaped, with heavy-duty Hot-dip Galvanized truss frame for support, and capable of supporting 4-5 persons for maintenance and cleaning. The tanks have an access hatch with cover, on the roof, for operation and maintenance. Roof ends are fitted with suitable vermin-proofing tape, to prevent ingress of dust and foreign objects. Covers are firmly fixed to the top edge of the tank with galvanized bolts and nuts. Tanks are provided with internal and external ladders. Tanks are having provision of rain water harvesting in the tank. Due to this solution the villagers can have access to ample water availability after rainy season till around February and as soon as the wells start depleting the water in the Zincalume tanks can be used in the water scarcity period. All the stored water in the tank will be purified through an automatic, non-electric and online water chlorination solution which will dose sufficient amount of chlorine in the water to disinfect all the bacteria. So all the villagers will get disinfected water. Salient Features of Tanks: Easy installation Long life Tank height Can be customized Easy to re-locate without any hassles. Water in tank is not in contact with steel. Sturdy Minimum civil work for base/foundation. Economical as compared to RCC tanks
