About Village: Bhogaon Budruk is one of the wadis in Yelangewadi village located on Mumbai Goa Highway (NH 17) at about 10 kilometres from Poladpur town and 30 km away from Mahad in Sahyadri ranges. Every year people in this wadi suffer from bad to severe water shortage problem which starts after the month of November to the end of summer season. The water scarcity problem is at its peak at the end of the summer season. The main source of water for this wadi is rain water in monsoon but in the summer season they don’t have a reliable and sustainable water source. The villagers either get water through tankers or from a well which is around 1km away from wadi, the water availability of which cannot be guaranteed for all residents of wadi. Hence most of the villagers are dependent on water tankers. As the village is located in hilly terrain, the rain water is not stored in the ground as groundwater and percolates down to the base of the hills. The construction of RCC tank is difficult in this area due to poor quality of roads & also the time duration for construction of the tank will be much more than standard conditions which ultimately will result in increase in the overall cost of RCC water storage tank. Solution: The solution for this Problem is Zincalume Coated Steel Pre-Fabricated Water Storage Bolted Tanks for Drinking Water which is pre-engineered & assembled at site. Each tank comes in a disassembled form which is easy to transform and requires minimal installation duration of 3 to 5 days. The installation duration will vary according to the capacity of tank. The schematic drawing of scheme is as bellow: Habitation : Bhogaon Budruk , Yelangewadi Block : Poladpur Taluka, Raigad District Source of Drinking water : Water tanker or Well Population of habitation, (census 2011) : 53 Annual Rainfall, m : 3m Water demand, ltr : 1,32,500 Daily distribution tanks, ltr : 5000 The tank comes with multiple-layered PE /PVC sheet for the inner containment liner which is attached from inside to the tank where the water is to be stored. As the diameter and height of tank is variable we can provide (or choose) a tank as per area available on site. The roof is domed shaped, with heavy-duty Hot-dip Galvanized truss frame for support. Rain water harvesting provision is provided to the roof of the tank for water collection in tank through rainfall. Here the roof of the tank has provision of launders and / or strainers to make the water from the roof of the tank to be collected into the tank. With such arrangement the collected water can be used in the period of water scarcity. This will reduce the severity of water shortage problem in summer season. Roof ends are fitted with suitable vermin-proofing tape, to prevent ingress of dust and foreign objects. Covers are firmly fixed to the roof top edge of the tank with galvanized bolts and nuts. Tanks are provided with internal and external ladders. The features of this solution are as below: Most economical storage solution in hilly region. Light weight but sturdy Easy to transport. Does not require heavy civil foundation. Fast installation Long life Easily expandable in height Can be installed on ground and elevated storage as per space availability As the water storage period in the tank is 4 to 5 months there is a chance of water contamination in the tank. Therefore the use of an online, automatic and non-electric water chlorination solution will ensure adequate water chlorination. This will enable the villagers to get purified water for drinking purpose. The technology is recommended by ministry of drinking water, govt. of India and empanelled with Water supply and sanitation department govt. of Maharashtra. The villagers can collect the water from daily distribution tank provided near main tank with tap stand Calculation: Total People in Bhogaon Budruk wadi =53 Usage of water per day per person = 20 lit’s appr. Amount of water needed per person in monsoon season (120 Day’s) = 120*53*20 = 1,32,500 lit’s Installed tank in Bhogaon Budruk = 2,00,000 lit’s
